Kathmandu Ranks Third in Top 10 Rising Travel Destination in the World 2013

Kathmandu has been listed third on the list of “rising travel destinations in the world” by Tripadvisor, one of the most reputed search engines for travelers. The capital city has also made its way on the top of the list for famous travel destinations in Asia.

Kathmandu, Nepal ranks just behind Havana in Cuba and La Fortuna de San Carlos in Costa Rica to make its place in third in the world rankings.

Along with the ranking, Traveladvisor has listed 65 must visit places in the Kathmandu valley that includes Bodnath stupa, Swayambhunath Temple, Changunarayan, Garden of Dreams and a lot of major tourist hubs rich with cultural and social heritages.

The Tripadvisor list of the major travel destinations in the world includes:
1. Havana, Cuba
2. La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica
3. Kathmandu, Nepal
4. Jerusalem, Israel
5. Cusco, Peru
6. Ambergris Caye, Belize
7. Sapporo, Japan
8. Hanoi, Vietnam
9. Corralejo, Spain
10. Fortaleza, Brazil
Kathmandu valley is blessed with seven of the world heritage sites in the world that includes the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Changu Narayan.

Kathmandu is also the only destination to make its way on to the list from the South Asia in the top 10 list. Around 800,000 travels came to Nepal by air in 2012 and it also has been reported that the number of tourists arrivals is gradually rising from month to month in 2013.

Are we prepared for earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal?


Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal that lies in highly earthquake-prone region is a densely populated city and hosts over 2.5 million people. According to experts an earthquake could destroy sixty percent of the buildings in Kathmandu displacing more than 1.8 million and injuring over 400,000. The valley hasn’t experienced anything big after 1934 but being prepared to future catastrophic earthquake is the challenge at the moment. Besides several planning done by the Nepal government jointly with the UN, the U.S. Government is also helping to promote earthquake awareness and preparedness messages in Nepal.
