‘Soongava’ couldn’t make it to the Oscars competition
The movie selected by the Nepali selection committee to represent Nepal in the Academy Awards, Oscars, couldn’t make it to the short-listing. The movie made on a lesbian love story, ‘Soongava’ was selected by a Nepali committee for the Oscars competition to compete in the Best Foreign Movie category.
The Oscars Awards organizer The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science has recently released the list of movies short-listed for the final competition. Nepali movie is not in the list.
‘Soongava’ features Nisha Adhikari and Diya Maskey in the lead roles. The movie directed by Suwarna Thapa was selected from the pool of the movies released in the last year.
Other movies competing with ‘Soongava’ were ‘Badhshala’ and ‘Shirish Ko Phool’. There was a controversy in the selection of ‘Soongava’ and the nationality of the director, Suwarna. The movie is also planned to be released in the theaters in Kathmandu.

Actress Sumina Ghimire has admitted that she is not a virgin. In an interview published in ‘Kamana’ monthly, Sumina has admitted that she is no longer a virgin.
This statement of not being virgin is linked with a couple of previous incidents in which she was found with producers of the movies she did. During the shooting of ‘Rang’ she was found in the producer Roshan Hamal’s room. In a latest incident, she was caught while travelling secretly to Malaysia with the producer of her movie ’9 O’clock’, Ramesh Sambedana.

Sumina Ghimire replaced by Anu Shah in Laxman Subedi’s Euta Sathi
The producers of upcoming movie ‘Euta Sathi’ have replaced actress Sumina Ghimire by another actress, Anu Shah. According to the producer Laxman Subedi, the change was a result in a new twist in the story. Sumina had previously worked in ‘Star’, a movie in which Laxman was one of the investors.
Although the film unit claims the role of the character Sumina was supposed to do has increased and Anu was better fit for the role, there are suspicion of relationship problem with the film unit. Although Anu Shah is regularly participating in workshop, Sumina wasn’t in contact with the film unit.

Hot Actress Sruabhi Jain responds to her critics
Actress Surabhi Jain debuted in ‘Samaya’ last year. The movie by actress Mausami Malla didn’t do well in theaters. After that Surabhi has done ‘Nagbeli’ directed by choreographer Gobind Rai. Apparently, somebody called her a flop heroine, and she has responded in a Facebook post.
Surabhi states that she doesn’t do all the movies that come her way. She is choosy and only do movies of good banners and good directors. She adds, "I’m not being choosy but just taking my time."
Jiya KC to retire from doing hot and sexy roles ?
The actress who is known for excessive exposure in movies, Jiya KC, has told that she has done it enough. Now, she wants to show her acting talent. Jiya made a reputation of a hot girl by showing off herself in movies like ‘ATM’ and ‘Barbad’. She was criticized by a lot of people in the film industry for doing the scenes unthinkable a while earlier. She made headlines for the movies she did and her affair with actor Bhuwan KC.

Is Poojana Pradhan having an affair with Shivam Pokharel?
Update: Poojana has refused any affair with Shivam. She states, "If you could get the person by posting a photo in Facebook, I would have posted my photo with Salman Khan."
In a Facebook status, actor and model Shivam Pokharal has posted a photo of him hugging actress Poojana Pradhan and stated that the photo is of "him and his life".
The photo was taken in their visit to Mumbai, India to participate in a cultural program. According to rumor, the visit helped them to understand each other and start the affair. While Shivam is struggling to establish himself as a model and actor, Poojana has been active in the Nepali movie industry for the last ten years. She is debuting as a producer by producing a movie named ‘Chocolate’ soon.

Although Poojana Pradhan (Stri) debuted with actress Rekha Thapa in ‘Hero’, Poojana hasn’t been that successful in movies. The hot bed scenes however were much talked about and created buzz about the Jayasangat actress. Hot bed scene with actor Kushal Thapa and photoshoped photo of Poojana were the two most talked about issues of the movie ‘Rakshya’. Although the movie was talked a lot in terms of being hot and sexy, it wasn’t much successful commercially.
Arunima Lama
Actress Arunima Lama is not the lead actress, but she is talked a lot only because she has shed clothes in the movie. In upcoming movie ‘Kina Kina’ Arunima is featured as a nude model. She has some bed scenes with actor Rajesh Hamal. Arunima however isn’t happy on the film maker’s publicity stunt and exaggerated publicity of her role. She has withdrawn herself from the promotion of the movie and she didn’t participate in the dubbing of the movie because of the remuneration issues with the film makers.
Second generation film artists in Nepali movie industry (Kollywood)
Nepali movie industry is largely influenced by Indian movie industry, Bollywood. Similar to Bollywood, it is easier for the kids of actors and film technicians to enter the film industry. Some of the names of second generation artists in Nepali industry include:
Samyam Puri - son of director Narayan Puri started in movies as a child artists and had debuted as an adult actor in ‘Samaya’.
Salon Basnet – son of actor and director Shovit Basnet is also debuting in ‘Hostel’.
Bhawana Regmi – the daughter of director Shiva Regmi debuted in ‘So Simple’. Although the movie wasn’t successful commercially, Bhawana’s acting was appreciated.
Anmol KC – the son of actor Bhuwan KC debuted in a song of ‘Sathi Ma Timro‘ and is debuting as an actor in ‘Hostel’ and Karodpati-2.
Gaurav Pahadi – the son of actor Tika Pahadi debuted in ‘Manjari’ and he is also being featured in ‘Hostel’.
Keki Adhikari – the daughter of director Badri Adhikari has established herself as a good actress. Keki debuted in ‘Swor’ and has acted in movies like ‘Masan’, ‘I am Sorry’, ‘Mayako Barima’, ‘A For America’, ‘Mutu’ and ‘Biteka Pal’.
Rista Basnet – the daughter of hair dresser and actress Bipana Basnet is featured as the fake Hisila Yami and is debuting in ‘Hostel’.
Sajja Mainali – the daughter of comedy actor Gopal Raj Mainali debuted in ‘Nau Danda Pari’ but, after marrying Om Bhattarai she went to USA leaving the career in Nepali movie industry.
Prasiddhi Rayamajhi – the daughter of actress Sushila Rayamajhi did ‘Pinjada’ and ‘Dhan Sampatti’ but didn’t continue acting after that.
Ragini Khadgi – the daughter of fight director Rajendra Khadgi has also chosen acting as her career. After debuting in ‘Plan’, Ragini has done movies like ‘Dulahi Rani’, ‘Mero Jiwan Sathi’, ‘Bheti’, ‘Nothing Impossible’ and ‘Gahirahi’.
Bijaya Thapa – the son of late director Prakash Thapa has also chosen to be a director, although he hasn’t been much successful in direction.
Sauryajit Baskota – the son of music director Sambhujit Baskota has also composed music in the movie ‘Kusume Rumal‘. Although the music was liked by people, Suryajit hasn’t composed music in other movies, yet.
Nirak Poudel – the son of producer and distributor Uddav Poudel had also directed a movie. In his childhood, he had also acted as a child artist in movies.
Raymon Das Shrestha – the son of actor Madan Das Shrestha had composed music of ‘Filim’ and is also debuting as an actor in ‘Megha’.
Ishowri Pradhan – the daughter of director Sambhu Pradhan had acted as a child artists in a lot of movies. She also acted as an adult actress in ‘Shorha Barse Jowan’. But, she has stopped acting after the movie and is currently living in the USA with her husband.
Our tradition and culture are similar to India similar to India we are used to the tradition of kids choosing the occupations of their parents. In Bollywood, the actors in second generation and generations after that have established film related families like Kapoor family, Bachchan family and so on. We can see a similar future in Nepali movie industry.
Loafer actress Rajani KC’s mourning on her father’s death
The ‘Loafer’ debut actress Rajani KC is mourning after the death of her 54-years old father, Chandra KC. Chandra was found dead in his bed on Thursday morning. He didn’t have any known medical problems to blame for his death.
According the the ‘Loafer’ producer Chhabi Raj Ojha, the dead body will be cremated in Pashupati later today after family members arrive from Nuwakot. Rajani is the only child of her parents. Rajani’s debut movie ‘Loafer’ is going to release on Mangsir 21 (December 6, 2013).
We all are wishing the deceased soul rest in peace and family members get the courage to deal with the loss.

Nisha Adhikari appreciates Priyanka Karki’s choreography skills
It is rare that an actress in Nepali film industry appreciate another actress. Pulling each other’s legs is one of the favorite game in the industry. So, Nisha’s positive comment on actress Priyanka Karki‘s potential in Nepali film industry can be considered a rare incident.
As we have already reported about Priyanka Karki choreographing in her upcoming movie ‘Mission Paisa Reloaded’. After she choreographed the song featuring Nisha Adhikari, Nisha told Priyanka is a "great choreographer in making". She also added, they have been friends for the last seven years.
About the strength of Priyanka, Nisha says, "With her eyes for details and hard work she is not just a rising star but is a potential changing agent of our industry."
Priyanka admits that it was the first time she was choreographing people other than herself.
